TPM Driver Issues After Windows Update
Affected Operating Systems
Users attempting to recover the operating system from Microsoft Windows 8 or 10 to Windows 7 or from Windows 7 to an earlier version may encounter issues related to the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) driver.
Cause
The issue arises due to the lack of Windows 7 32-bit drivers for certain TPM devices. Additionally, some devices may not have Windows 7 64-bit drivers available.
Troubleshooting Steps
To resolve the issue, follow these steps:
- Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Device security.
- Under Security processor, select Security processor details.
- Details on the device will show ACPIMSFT0101 (Figure 1).

If the device is ACPIMSFT0101, there is no Windows 7 32-bit driver available. You must switch to Windows 7 64-bit and install the appropriate hotfix.
Conclusion
By following these steps, users can troubleshoot and resolve TPM driver issues that may arise after a Windows update. It is important to note that the availability of drivers may vary depending on the specific TPM device and Windows version.
