Bayer Leverkusen took a huge step towards the Europa League final after a deserved 2-0 first-leg victory in their last-four clash against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.

Florian Wirtz and Lucas Alario scored the goals as Leverkusen extended their unbeaten run to 14 matches in all competitions.

The German side were good value for their victory, creating the better chances throughout the game.

Roma had their moments, but they were unable to find a way past the Leverkusen defence.

The result leaves Leverkusen in a strong position ahead of the second leg at the BayArena next week.
